The Chaco Canyons was the high desert home to the Chacoan people around AD 800.  They lived here for over 300 years and constructed multi story houses from surrounding rocks and mud.  Their community grew to over 150 great houses in the region and were connected by roads.  Their structures were oriented to astronomy and line of sight between structures allowed for communications.  The Chacoans migrated out of these structure is AD 1200 and became more interspersed with other cultures such as Aztec and Mesa Verde and are the ancestors to the modern Southwest Indians.
